Rarest Rose

When Malcolm, a twenty-something videographer, begins making a documentary about former classmate Rose May—a celebrated musician and homelessness activist—he intends to honor a rare, radiant soul. But through interviews with those closest to her, a different portrait emerges: a luminous yet fractured young woman, shadowed by childhood trauma and the development of an alternate
personality.
What begins as a documentary slowly devolves into a noir-inflected criminal investigation involving obsession, addiction, and human trafficking as Malcolm questions what really happened to Rose May—and what she was really trying to show the world. Ultimately, the film expands into a mythic exploration of trauma, identity, and the transformative power of confronting not only one’s shadow, but one’s light.
