The Project Gallery is a collection of projects produced by members of our fiscal sponsorship program and other Creative Visions impact media programs. This includes projects that are currently in production, as well as completed projects.
State of Firsts (fka Sarah McBride)
After college, Sarah interned for then-Vice President Biden, becoming the first-ever transgender staff member in the White House. It was there she met and fell in love with Andrew Cray, a young trans man and policy analyst at a think tank. They had a whirlwind romance for about a year, before Andrew was diagnosed with an aggressive oral cancer that had spread to his lungs. Sarah paused her budding career to be his caretaker as he increasingly became unable to walk, eat, and breath on his own. With Sarah by his side, he underwent surgery, radiation and chemotherapy but was ultimately told to make end-of-life plans. And he did — proposing to Sarah and arranging a wedding just a few weeks later. Sarah describes her wedding as beautiful but bittersweet. It was Andrew’s last full day out of the hospital and he passed away holding her hand just three days later.
