Displaced by catastrophic Los Angeles wildfires in January, four teens from different communities cope with extraordinary loss while navigating the ordinary challenges of adolescence. Over the course of one year, we observe their resilience and fragility as they rebuild their lives, while knowing the next disaster could be around the corner.

Through the journeys of four ordinary young people during an extraordinary crisis, we explore how individuals and communities rebuild. How do individual identities form? How do issues like class, housing, education, and the environment shape the future? While each teen protagonist’s pitfalls and triumphs may be unique, the lessons they learn are universal. In a time of increasingly intense and frequent natural — and man-made — disasters, the need to share them is urgent.
