With federal funding cut, what happens when the lifeline of rural America — public broadcasting — goes silent?

The Last Broadcast is a feature documentary about the struggle for PBS and NPR to stay alive. PBS and NPR are the last bastions of trusted, independent journalism and storytelling in America. Since congress cut 1.1 billion to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), stations across the country, particularly in rural areas, are at risk for shutting down leaving news deserts in their wake. The concerning rise in media censorship across the United States underscores the necessity for public journalism’s survival. This project follows several journalists across the country in local public newsrooms as they work to serve their communities in the wake of catastrophic cuts to their budgets.
