PATEL
CAUSE: Community Empowerment, Racial Justice
CATEGORY: Film
PROJECT DIRECTOR: Megha Kadakia
PATEL is a darkly comedic film reimagining of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, set in the world of Indian-American motel owners. The film follows Hiten Patel, a weary patriarch whose ambition and paranoia ignite when a chance encounter tempts him to seize control of his family’s struggling empire. As his choices spiral into betrayal and bloodshed, the motel transforms into a battleground for power, identity, and survival. Blending biting humor with sharp cultural commentary, PATEL offers a fresh lens on the immigrant experience, exploring themes of legacy, assimilation, and the cost of chasing the American Dream. With its bold aesthetic and ensemble cast, the film pushes beyond stereotypes to deliver a story that is both deeply specific and universally resonant.
