With the growing popularity of high-altitude expeditions, Nepal’s Himalayas face a serious pollution crisis from trash left behind by climbing tourists. Local cleanup efforts have received little publicity and awareness, and the international climbing community is failing to take accountability. In a joint effort by local and international climbers to address this shared problem, the WILD YAK Clean Mountain Project will clean up Kangchenjunga – the world’s third-highest peak and known as “the Forgotten Mountain” – to set a new standard for high-altitude expeditions, build lasting solutions for mountain waste management, and instill a global commitment to environmental stewardship in even the most challenging endeavors.
