As the COVID crisis intensifies in India, claiming 3,000 to 4,000 lives a day, this Zoom webinar featured New York Times South Asia Bureau Chief in New Delhi, Jeffrey Gettleman, in conversation with Sree Sreenivasan, Co-Founder of Digimentors and Marshall Loeb Innovation Professor of Journalism at Stony Brook University, and Amita N. Vyas, PhD, MHS, Professor of Public Health and Co-Founder of the Global India Fund, to discuss the role of journalists during times of crisis.

Together, they examined the emotional toll on those covering conflict, famine and pandemics, and the concept of “Restorative Narratives,” stories that seek to engage readers in responding with empathy and compassion. They were joined by Amit Bhandari of Magic Bus and Nishant Pandey of American India Foundation who gave viewers information about what they can do to be part of the solution.

Special music presentation from Gingger Shankar and Erin Cook.
