How George Litto Bulldozed the Hollywood Blacklist - Silver Anthem Winner - Human & Civil Rights

CAUSE: Human Rights & Civil Liberties
CATEGORY: Film/Video
PROJECT DIRECTOR: Andria Litto

A story about an unsung hero of Hollywood, George Litto, who gave people their lives back when few others had the courage and the tenacity to stand up to Hollywood studios, producers and the FBI in order to do so. In the 1960s, George Litto represented several of the Hollywood 10 and many blacklisted writers and directors, who were either not working or working under assumed names for a fraction of their usual fee, and he put them back to work systematically, earning them their right to work, their proper fees and gave them their lives back after HUAC had blacklisted them ending 2 decades of censorship. They went on to receive multiple Oscars, Golden Globes and other awards. He also made the first film with a trans lead and the first blaxploitation film. He was a trailblazer whose believe in the right of human dignity for all permeated his work and his life.
