Both Ends of The Gun
The anatomy of a murder — the 1995 killing of one boy by another — but also the anatomy of the startling forgiveness that followed, and the price paid for both over the next 25 years.
BOTH ENDS OF THE GUN is a documentary feature film drawn from the lives of two boys, one from the immigrant Muslim community and the other from the black Christian community, brought together violently, and then their families who bonded in order to transcend and make meaning from the tragic loss that they each suffered at both ends of the gun. In January 1995 Tariq Khamisa, a 20 year San Diego State college student who had a weekend job delivering pizzas, was shot and killed for his pizza money by 14 year old Tony Hicks in a botched gang initiation, that left Tariq dead, and Tony sentenced to 25 years to life in prison as an adult. This is also the story of the two boys’ fathers – each of diverse faith, race and culture from the other – who must put their differences aside in order to help each other heal and forgive, by creating a national program to stop kids from killing other kids (named for Tariq), so that no other child, family or father need suffer the same fate as they and theirs had.
