Standing in the Gap: The Splintering of American Healthcare and the Heroes Helping Their Neighbors

Healthcare in the U.S. has splintered into two groups: the haves and the have-nots. More and more Americans are falling into the have-not camp, especially with harmful legislation coming out of Washington DC that threatens funding and practitioners. For these Americans, access to care is limited if not non-existent, leading to adverse health outcomes and economic distress for communities. There are heroes who are stepping into the gap to provide care for their neighbors, often at their own economic and personal expense. Our goal is to educate Americans that these disparities exist, while highlighting and supporting the organizations that are stepping into the gap.

“Standing In the Gap” is a series of short, powerful social-media-first documentary films (90-120 seconds), each telling a story of the splintering of American healthcare, while highlighting the heroes who are working to offer care to their neighbors. Each film will be packaged and targeted for key audiences with three goals in mind: educating everyday Americans that these disparities exist, encouraging Americans to take part in our Democratic process and use their voices, and supporting the organizations working on the front lines.
