An actor traces his journey from Amistad to a U.S. Marine Corps PSA, exploring justice, representation, and the preservation of Black warrior narratives in American history. From Amistad to a Post-9/11 Marine Corps PSA is a feature documentary that follows actor Leonard Clifton as he traces his journey from portraying an African captive in Steven Spielberg’s Amistad to appearing in a United States Marine Corps public service announcement produced by the Department of Defense in the aftermath of 9/11. Through archival materials, museum acquisitions, and personal reflection, the film explores how Black identity, patriotism, and the warrior narrative have evolved in American history and media. Clifton examines the historical exoneration of the Amistad captives alongside the cultural climate that shaped post-9/11 national service messaging, revealing how storytelling influences public memory, justice, and civic responsibility. The project connects film history, military representation, and racial justice to inspire dialogue about education, equality, and the role of media in shaping American ideals.
