Backyard Party

Accessible live music and real-world production experience for all ages, styles, and incomes

CAUSE: Arts, Culture & Humanities, Education & Youth Development
CATEGORY: Music
PROJECT DIRECTOR: Matt Chait

Backyard Party is an all-ages live music platform based in Pasadena that gives young musicians and creatives real stages, real audiences, and hands-on experience in the live music ecosystem. Through curated shows, events, pop-ups, workshops, photography, graphic design, social media, and behind-the-scenes mentorship, Backyard Party helps young people learn what it means to perform, produce, document, promote, and participate in live music culture.

Founded and run by a small team with deep roots in music, design, production, and youth culture, Backyard Party has already presented more than 100 shows featuring almost 300 bands and serving more than 3,000 attendees in our community. The project is currently operating through pop-ups and partner venues while working toward a permanent all-ages venue in Pasadena, with a long-term goal of creating a replicable model for affordable, professionally run all-ages music spaces in other cities!
