Malibu Rainbow

CAUSE: Community Empowerment, Diversity, Environment, Equity & Inclusion
CATEGORY: Visual Arts
PROJECT DIRECTOR: Yvette Mattern

Malibu Rainbow brings Yvette Mattern’s internationally acclaimed Global Rainbow light installation to select locations throughout Malibu. Debuting during the week of January 7, 2026, to mark the anniversary of the Palisades Fire, and continuing as an annual Fourth of July presentation, the project reimagines fireworks as a sustainable and unifying expression of light.

Seven beams of laser light will illuminate the Malibu sky, representing the colors of the rainbow as a universal symbol of peace, connection, and resilience. Mattern’s work transforms the natural landscape into a radiant meditation on renewal and community spirit. By merging art, environment, and collective reflection, Malibu Rainbow invites viewers to experience hope made visible — a luminous celebration that honors Malibu’s healing journey while inspiring a more peaceful and sustainable way to gather and celebrate together.
