July Sundowner & Virtual Reality Experience

Sundowners are our favorite Kenyan-borrowed summertime tradition -- drinks, music, and phenomenal people gathering to toast to a beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean and learn more about creative activism.

Experience how new storytelling technologies - virtual and augmented reality and MotionBooks - are increasing awareness and shifting perspectives.

We'll supply the headsets - all you have to do is look around.

Featuring CAP projects

The Convergence

The Convergence uses new storytelling technology and is available through the Madefire app as a motion book. Motion Books, unlike 2D comics, use sound, effects and movement to enhance storytelling and can be dowloaded on most mobile devices and on Apple TV.

The Convergence is a socially-driven graphic novel with a portion of the proceeds going towards organizations that help animals and rainforests affected by the palm oil trade. In addition, the author hopes to use the book to create a community of storytellers, artists and activists who can educate the public on the negative global impacts of the palm oil industry.

Traces

Traces is a cinematic virtual reality film exploring the memories of one woman living with Alzheimer’s disease. In the film, the main character Willie White, an 88-year old woman living with dementia, recounts her time as a young girl living in the fields near Mason, Tennessee. As her words transport us back in time, traces of memory fall in and out.

Through these vibrant recollections, illustrated through re-enactments, we journey with Willie as she searches for the words to one of her favorite songs and the meaning of memory in this new and fragmented landscape.

PLUS a special VR experience: tree

A virtual-reality project transforms you into a rainforest tree. With your arms as branches and your body as the trunk, you’ll experience the tree’s growth from a seedling into its fullest form and witness its fate firsthand.
