Eight months after the death of her mother, Maxi Cohen began making a film about her ambivalent relationship with her withholding and provocative father, Joe. With sensitive and probing cinematography, the camera becomes a catalyst for bringing father and daughter together for the first time.

"A VERY BEAUTIFUL LOVING FILM. Traditional Hollywood movies are always trying to create characters as real as those in JOE AND MAXI but they never do. A completely honest film. This is the story about a self-made man and his three children who desperately want to make themselves into people as strong as their father."

"An overwhelming experience – PASSIONATE, PROVOCATIVE, AND LIFE AFFIRMING."
- LOS ANGELES TIMES

"JOE- a gutsy, funny individualist – IS UNFORGETTABLE."
