Patricia Maresch & Gustavo Gelmini – Babies from Talavera

Posted by

Talavera Baby is a documentary that shows the life of young mothers and their newborn babies in a special section of a women’s prison in Rio de Janeiro. The mothers are allowed to keep their newborns with them for six months. After that, the baby is either sent to family or given up for adoption.

Talavera Baby addresses maternity, jail, justice, confinement and guilt, but above all the bond between mothers and their newborns and their longings, losses, joys, survival, hopes and regrets.
